Five Ways To Shake It Off

What do you do when life is just sucking. Like not a normal, oh I just had a bad day, but like an overall suckage. You still have to get up every day and go to work, but you keep asking yourself WHY?

This is even worse when you own the company. See, in the last two weeks I have had to find a foster home for our dog (the landlord is against her breed), had my wallet stolen, the a.c. in my house broke, my fiance’s car broke down, and oh so much more that I won’t even go into here. So how do you brush off the bad, put a smile on your face and go inspire your staff, pitch media, and keep on top of all your clients?

1.Remember that you have been here before. At some point in your life, shit went down. You know it’s true. This may or may not be the worst you’ve ever felt, it is simply the way you’re feeling right now. And it sucks. Acknowledge it, and then move on. Feel bad for yourself for exactly 2 minutes…and then take action.

2.Take Action. Sure you can say it. I’ve said it twice in a row here, but DOING something is the next step, and where many people get stuck. When life feels overwhelming, many people respond by doing nothing because they don’t know where to start. My surefire technique is to do something small – clean out my fridge or read an article to learn a new technique. Sometimes, it helps to know you can control something – anything.

3.Literally, Shake It Off. Stand up. Shake your right arm and count to 5. 1,2,3,4,5. The send the shaking down your left arm and shake it out 5,4,3,2,1. Do the same up your right leg and then back down the left. And then try it from your head to your toes, moving your whole body. Let it loosen you up physically and mentally.

4.Talk To Your Staff. Tell people in your office,¬†“hey – I am having a no good, very bad day.” You’ll be amazed at how people can surprise you, and how quickly you will find yourself smiling again.

5.Finally, Give Yourself a Break. It’s ok to have a bad day. A bad week. A bad month. Accept it. Tell yourself it is alright. If you need to stop, take a deep breath, and maybe even take a day off – do it. Refresh. Remind yourself that YOU are what matters most. Your health and your happiness. In a clear headspace¬†you’ll find all problems become easier to solve.
